Up early today so I could trim the lighthouse trail before people arrived. I got half way down and ran out of gas. Besides, visitors were coming up the trail so I’ll finish tomorrow. Cyndy arrived with Ethan and the winners of an auction for a “gourmet lunch on Seguin”. While Cyndy and the group went to the lighthouse I went out to see Ethan in the boat. We ended up rowing around the cove and collecting about twenty lobster pot buoys from the cracks and crevices.
By 1230 we walked up to the lighthouse and I helped out with tours and talked to the visitors. It was nice today but not as clear as yesterday. We had visitors throughout the day and stayed busy until 1700. Our last group was three guys on jet skis that came down river from Bath. One had a digital camera rigged up to a kite. He flew the kite over the lighthouse and the camera takes a picture every minute. He does this as a hobby and said he will send us the pictures. Should prove interesting.
During the day I was talking to Ethan and mentioned the old steam engine that was supposed to be in the hole by the whistle house. He wanted to investigate, so we walked down to the area and he traipsed through the weeds. Guess what? He found the flywheel and a bunch of other junk. The flywheel is partially buried and there seems to be other stuff in the hole. I have a few ideas of how to get it out and we’ll see what happens. This five foot flywheel is from the old coal powered steam engine. Apparently when the steam engine was removed it was simply rolled down the hill into the ditch.
