Monday, August 10

Mr. Whiskers paid us a visit today. Mr. Whiskers is a seal that we saw on the beach today. He is hanging around the cove. He seems to be OK, however his actions are not ordinary. Seals are normally gregarious and family oriented. Mr. Whiskers was alone. He may be sick. Unfortunately I did not have my camera with me today so I have no pictures of him. I’ll have to keep a lookout for him during the next few days.

Tom and Carolyn Allen from Ocean City visited today. They arrived around 1500 and spent a couple of hours. We got the latest scoop from OC and showed them our quarters and the lighthouse. Tom and Carolyn are traveling on to Bar Harbor and then to Mt. Washington. It was nice to see some familiar faces!

For a Monday we did not have many visitors. Only two groups showed up and we gave them tours of the light. At least one family is spending the night in the cove.

I felt the need to mow again so I cut another area just south of the house. I have noticed during the last couple of days that visitors like to sit on the rocks in this area, but to do so they had to wade through waist high grass. Not anymore. I cut it down, weed whacked it and Brenda raked. I guess I am as prone to mowing grass as she is to painting.

It was hot and humid today. Temperatures in the eighties and humidity around seventy percent. I called my son and he said it was a miserable hot day on Delmarva. Three digit temperatures and almost one hundred percent humidity. I bet the beaches were full there!
