Wednesday, July 1

We did make it ashore today.

And we realized that there really are people out there! We haven’t seen another person since Ethan left us off last Friday. 0700 found us in the dingy tied to the mooring buoy. Next to us, tied to another buoy was a fishing boat. Se the picture above and notice the loooooong bow pulpit and the harpoon on the end. This is another example of a harpoon fishing rig. That pulpit projects out about twenty-five feet. Imagine standing out there chasing a large tuna or shark and trying to harpoon it. Must be one hell of a ride!

About ten minutes later (Percy’s) Ethan appeared out of the fog and we made our way in…. slowly.

Once ashore, and after breakfast, the fog started lifting. The further inland we got, the better it was. We never saw the sun but we did see more than two hundred feet and some people.

After our stop at the post office and laundromat we saw Connie at the office and then it was off to Pizza Hut. We had some extra time today and walked through the Sears store in Cook’s Corner. Just like every other Sears store. We didn’t buy anything. Then off the Walmart for the food and a few extras.

Back at Fort Popham by 1700 and what do we see on the water?

FOG….what else?

Ethan gets us safely back to the island. Then offloading, uploading to the tram, offloading to the wheelbarrow, uploading to the house and so on. You know the drill by now. Fog so thick that I can hardly see Brenda when she gives me the stop signal from the top of the tram. But once again we get it done, safely and with no problems.

We didn’t stop and get lobsters today. We decided to wait until next week.
