INVASION! Went into the kitchen last night and turned the light on and guess what I saw. CRICKETS! A whole bunch of ‘em. So, I smacked them with the fly swatter and spent the next five minutes cleaning up their guts. Not to appetizing, but at least it wasn’t roaches. I’ll pick up some pesticide in town tomorrow.
I didn’t think it was possible, but today was clearer than yesterday. Monhegan was very clear. It was warm and comfortable. I spent the morning helping offload the geology students and getting them situated in camp. This is a group of ten college students hand selected from all over the country to participate in a National Science Foundation project. They are mapping the island using sophisticated GIS telemetry and are attempting to prove a theory that Seguin is in the middle of the Norumbega fault. These students spend eight weeks going from island to island (usually by kayak) doing geologic work. Two professors from the University of Southern Maine are guiding their work. They will be here until Saturday morning.
Brenda spent the day painting the dining room and wiping up the floor. It looks good. Now she will do the trim and that room will be done.
After dinner the students took a lighthouse tour and watched the sunset. I hope their next few days are as nice as this one.
